Archive for September, 2008

It was my birthday two weeks ago (35 years young / old / mature….) For this momentus year my wife bought me a book called ‘Secrets of the Gem Trade’ by Richard Wise.  The book sat on my bedside table for all of the last three weeks until a particularly insomniac night two days ago meant I had the chance to pick it up and starting turning pages.

274 pages, 7 hours and a pack of cigarettes later I finally finished the book, and wow what a book.  Richard has written this book for the connoissuer in every amatuer diamond lover.  Straight non-technical talk guides the reader through how to look at a stone, what the critera for evaluation is in faceted stones, cabochons, stars, catseyes, pearls and opals.

I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants one of those diamond bibles to place on their bookshelf.  You can find it in all stores including amazon where there are some great book reviews.

It had to happen, everything in this world is going bling bling, so why should it stop at jewelry and teeth.  Now Apple has a 3G iPhone encrusted with diamonds.  Made to order from an exclusive retailer (you wont find this on the iPhone website) the phone has no price listed since the diamonds or gems are custom chosen by the customer.

Of course this is the kind of thing that marketers call ‘ultimate-audience-capture’ since this diamond encrusted iPhone appeals to everyone including; the bling bling crews, boys who love toys, and of course the ladies out there that expect glamor to be part of every aspect of their life. ( I hope my wife does not see this post)

One of my favorite tech sites ‘wired‘ broke this story about the diamond iphone earlier in the month.  Whilst a friend of mine emailed me this website that sells diamond encruseted carry cases for your diamond encrusted iPhone… will it ever end?

No, we’ve not gone mad! I was just going through some of the archives of our Discount Engagement Rings Blog and came to a conclusion we needed to add some fun and frolics.  What better way than to bring Marilyn Monroe to our pages with her infamous song ‘Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend’

Why you may ask? why was I up all night reading through the archives?  well today marks our 2 Year Blogging Birthday.  17th September 2006 we wrote our first post to the world.  Since then and hundreds of posts later we’ve waxed lyrical (excuse the pun) about diamonds, the industry, great deals and so much more.

So, sing along with Marylin…. Diamonds are a girls best friend..

Tomorrow marks our 2 year blogging about Diamonds.  So i’ve been asked to review the archives and pick my favorite blog post from the hundreds we’ve written.

Well, I’ve been thinking hard, and though it was not the most in-depth post, the one that caught my eye and stayed firm in my mind was the post written on October 21st 2007 entitled Bejeweled Bra made of 630 grams Gold and 7.5 carats diamonds.

I have a few hours off work now, and then i’m spending the evening reading each and every post. By the morning I’ll have something more to share with you.

By the way, while I have the window open and finger tips are tip-tapping, I wanted to remind all my readers that at Diamonds USA you can design your own ring with their new CAD system.  It has a comprehensive library of styles and its been improved giving faster responses and greater satisfaction with the final image.

I have no idea how we missed this one.  But from the influx of emails we felt its never too late to report on the weird and wonderful world of Celebrities and their diamonds!

Pete Doherty is planning to have the ashes of his cat Shelley made into a diamond ring. The singer has commissioned the piece from US company LifeGem and insiders claims Pete, 29, is planning to give the sparkler to ex Kate Moss, 34.

Now we at Diamonds-USA cannot guarantee the truth in this story, and nor do we endorse the use of deceased pets as jewelry.  This is the arena of celebrity, money and insanity (no offense intended Pete)  We love this romantic couple who despite all the odds and obstacles are happily in love and choose to cement that relationship with a quality diamond ring.
