During medieval times, it was widely believed to be unlucky to wear pearls because they represented tears. Diamonds, on the other hands, was considered to show a sign of power and great luck, keeping all evil things like witches away. It was also believed to keep the wearer from experiencing a sudden onset of a mental illness such as going insane. So if a bride was seen wearing pearls on her wedding day instead of diamonds, the community would deem the marriage cursed and condemned to unhappiness.
Wearing silver earrings were once thought to keep the evil spirits from possessing an individuals body. Silver earrings were seen to create a protective barrier about an individual so that no evil spirits could penetrate exposed orifices. Also wearing silver earrings were thought to keep the devil away from the wearer. So sporting a simple pair of hoops could keep your body possession free while the wearer is being stylish.
The superstition of the engagement goes as is, if you have a ring on your ring finger don’t remove it, if you don’t have one there don’t put one there. It was considered bad luck if a woman removed her engagement ring for any reason before her wedding day. The reason for this was because of the fear that the wedding may never take place. It was also a big no no to let another woman try on your engagement ring. It was said that if that occurred, the woman that tried on the ring would steal the soon to be husband away. For the single ladies, it is considered bad luck to display a ring on the proposed engagement ring finger. If a woman was to wear a ring on that finger, she would be cursed to be alone forever.
Some believe that it is bad luck to wear a birth stone that isn’t yours. If that were the case, every bride in the world would be cursed unless their birthday fell in the month of April.
Prince WIlliam and Kate Middleton have made it official. The young couple, both 28, were engaged after William proposed in Kenya last October. They will marry next spring or summer.
Out of all the engagement rings he could choose from, the Prince chose what might be the most meaningful to him; he gave Kate his mother’s ring – the same one Prince Charles gave to Princess Diana thirty years ago. The ring features a large sapphire surrounded by sparkling diamonds. William said it was “my way of making sure my mother didn’t miss out on today and the excitement”.
And what does Miss Middleton think of her new royal role? Regarding her ring, she priased Princess Diana as an “inspirational woman”. She also confessed that it is a “daunting prospect” to join the royal family, but she hoped she would take it all in stride.
The couple met roughly a decade ago when both were students at St. Andrews University. When asked about the length of their relationship and the long time it took him to finally pop the question, William responded, “I didn’t realise it was a race, otherwise I probably would have been a lot quicker.” Miss Middleton agreed that the time finally felt right. “We have been going out a long time. We had spoken about our future and it just seemed the natural step for both of us.”

Prince Harry, out for flying training with the RAF, issued a public statement congratulating the couple. “I am delighted that my brother has popped the question. It means I get a sister, which I have always wanted.”
The couple did not reveal details of the proposal itself, except to say that it was romantic and personal. Both shared their excitement and happiness at taking the next step in their relationship and about their future together. The wedding will be held in London next year. Once married, the couple will live in north Wales where Prince William is currently serving with the air force. And as for children? Prince William says they want a family, but will take it “one step at a time”.

Just get them coated with diamonds!
Yes, you read right.
Scientists at the University of Alabama in the USA are working hard on developing replacement hips that are coated in diamonds as a way of preserving them for longer. Currently, replacement hips need to be looked at and possibly replaced every 10-15 years but with the new diamond hip technology, you won’t ever have to worry about that.
Scientists have until now, struggled with breaking down diamonds to small enough particles that would allow it to be applied onto the hip replacements without the ’solid’ molecular structure being compromised. The breakthrough has been seen as something amazing that will revolutionise the healthcare industry however there are questions about affordability.
This is great news and it’s wonderful to see diamonds being used not just to make people look beautiful but to help maintain their health as well.
