If you’ve ever had a ring passed down through the generations, you will understand how important engagement rings truly are. An engagement ring, whether it’s a modern diamond engagement ring or a priceless antique engagement ring, is a ring that will be cherished forever.

Most brides wear their engagement rings for the rest of their lives. That is why it’s important to carefully choose the type of ring you or your bride, will wear forever. The type of ring, albeit a ring of round diamonds, emerald diamonds or any coloured diamonds, will say a lot about who the couple are.

The style of an engagement ring reflects the personality of the person wearing it, as well as the personality of the person who chose it. It is for these reasons choosing a trendy diamond ring is important.

One of the best ways to get a unique, yet trendy diamond engagement ring is to visit a ring designer. A professional designer will be able to help you chose a ring that suits the couple for both practicality and personal reasons.

With a ring designer, you can incorporate your own ideas with other design ideas that are hot and trendy. You can mix and match the type of loose diamonds used as well as the cut. You can select from cuts such as round, emerald, oval and princess. You will also be able to pick the metal you think to be most appropriate as well, which normally includes yellow or white gold or platinum.

One of the hottest trends in diamond engagement rings today are with coloured diamonds. Make your ring exceptionally personal by basing the stones on two family heirloom rings. By doing this, you will be combining the two new families into one family through a new heirloom piece.

Another hot trend in engagement rings is the halo ring. These rings have become a mad rage with many, including Hollywood stars. The halo engagement ring offers women the perfect amount of tradition with a hint of vintage.

The halo engagement ring is made with micropave diamonds that surround the centre stone, which is normally a diamond. These micropave diamonds offer the halo effect of the center stone that will not be found in other classic rings, such as the solitaire. This type of ring setting is an excellent way to accent other ring types no matter what cut you choose. You can easily halo an asscher, round, princess, emerald or cushion cut diamond.

If you’re wondering who else has opted for this trendy choice of ring, check out the hands from a few of Hollywood’s greatest stars including Natalie Portman, Jennifer Garner, Carrie Underwood, Gwyneth Paltrow and Mariah Carey. One of the most famous halo rings is that of Princess Diana’s diamond and sapphire ring, which has been passed down to Kate Middleton.

No matter what type of trendy engagement ring design you choose, there’s no doubt that it will become a loving and timeless piece worn for many happy years.

It seems when it comes to jewels, diamonds and celebrities go hand in hand. It is on celebrities that we see many stunning pieces of jaw-dropping designs in the form of diamond earrings, diamond rings, diamond necklaces and exquisite diamond pendants. No matter who wears it or where we happen to see it, beautiful jewelry that adorn the rich and famous are often admired and envied by everyone.

Regular folk such as us also keep an eye on celebrities for their unique choice of round diamond engagement rings. From modern actresses to past starlets, beautiful diamonds get as much notice as the person wearing them.

If you’re a fan of celebrities wild for jewelry you’re probably aware of some of the more well-known collectors who have an eye, and bank account, for the finer things in life. Take for example, leading ladies such as Jackie Onassis, Ivanka Trump, Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly. To this list you can also add Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Catherine Zeta Jones, Gloria Swanson, Katie Holms and Gwyneth Paltrow, to name a few of the more notorious diamond-loving celebrities.

You may already know that it was Marilyn Monroe who sang the famous song, Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend. Oddly enough, this stunning Hollywood actress did not own many jewels herself but she most certainly knew how to add an extra sparkle to them when she wore them. One of her most memorable pieces was a 24-carat pear shaped yellow diamond in her photo, The Moon of Baroda.

Other famous faces with a taste for sparkling glamour include the late Brittney Murphy. She too was a fan of yellow diamonds, which was to be the first of two engagement rings from her fiancé. This 5-carat diamond was adorned by a ring of smaller diamonds for an extra touch. Her second engagement ring was a stunning 6.5-carats. This beautiful cushion cut stone was cut to rest on a diamond-studded band.

Another famous engagement ring included that of Selita Ebanks who was presented with a gorgeous cushion cut 15-carat diamond. Although the engagement didn’t last, the diamond sure has.

How could anyone forget the incredible 19th century, 150-carat choker diamond necklace worn by Nicole Kidman to the Oscars? No wonder she too, sang the famous song, Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend!

Of course Elizabeth Taylor was as known for her passion of diamonds as much as she was known for her movies. She made no attempt to hide her obsession for the beautiful stones but instead, became rather famous for owning some of the most spectacular stones on earth.

The starlet actress and her adorning husbands kept her draped in diamonds, so much so, that several of the most famous diamonds were known to belong to her. One of these magnificent stones was the 33.19-carat Asscher cut Krupp Diamond that she received as a gift from Richard Burton in 1968. She wore this magnificent diamond ring everywhere she went. Elizabeth Taylor was also gifted with the Taj Mahal diamond for her 40th birthday as well as, what became known as the Taylor / Burton diamond. This monster 69.42-carat was cut pear shaped rated as D-color; flawless!

If you are going to buy a ring for your loved one, you should seriously consider round diamond engagement rings. But new buyers and diamond laypeople don’t exactly know how to buy the right diamond engagement ring. We are going to discuss some common myths related to buying round diamond engagement rings.

Here are some most common myths related to buying diamonds:

Bigger means better

More facets means superior quality

Diamond grading is the best way to find out which diamond is the most beautiful

Ideal cut is the best

Bigger means better

Yes, large diamonds do have a wow factor, but only if their quality is good. But actually, the value, beauty, and quality of a diamond have got nothing much to do with size. If you get a big diamond with low quality, it will be lusterless and low grade. It might have poor color, visible inclusions, or low clarity. But ever worse- it might be badly cut. But anyway, if size is an essential requirement for you, try to find the largest diamond that is also high on quality.

More facets means superior quality

There are many brands that boast of their superiority because they use more diamond facets. Of course diamond facets are there to steal the maximum amount of light and then bounce it from one facet to another so that it reflects the maximum, but it is not always true that more facets create more sparkle. Instead of the number of facets, you should be concerned about the precision and skill that is put in making those facets. If facet pattern isn’t made with faultless symmetry, light does not bounce off right.

Diamond grading is the best way to find out which diamond is the most beautiful

Diamond grading is indeed an important factor when you buy a diamond. But grading should be used as just a guideline rather than as a final decision maker. When it comes to making the final decision about diamond engagement rings, let your eyes be the last judge because your loved one needs to wear a beautiful diamond, not a grading report.

Ideal cut is the best

Round diamond engagement rings are called ideal when they are cut to certain proportions that were decided way back in early 20th century. Proportions were measured and decided to get the best light dispersion from a diamond. But there is no actual industry agreement that says what kind of cut should be used on round diamond engagement rings. The ideal cut was popular many, many years ago, but over the decades, it just lost its charm. There are new cuts now that reflect light in many ways, and they utilize latest technology.

Regardless of the reason, Travis Pittman, a producer for KING 5 News station, popped the question to his girlfriend during a trip to the Washington Pier close to the Des Moines Marina last Saturday evening.

The setting was beautiful and everything was going well until he, on accident, lost the ring by dropping it into the Puget Sound.

The classic diamond ring was a half-carat on a white gold band with small diamonds inlaid into the band. At first, he tried to tell his bride to be, Kim Hopper, that he wanted to get married but did not have enough money to buy her the perfect diamond ring. He then proposed and presented her with the beautiful diamond ring. It did not take her long to say yes to his proposal. As he was slipping the ring onto her finger it came off and fell into the water.

Pittman is hoping that the ring is found safely and returned to him.

During medieval times, it was widely believed to be unlucky to wear pearls because they represented tears. Diamonds, on the other hands, was considered to show a sign of power and great luck, keeping all evil things like witches away. It was also believed to keep the wearer from experiencing a sudden onset of a mental illness such as going insane. So if a bride was seen wearing pearls on her wedding day instead of diamonds, the community would deem the marriage cursed and condemned to unhappiness.

Wearing silver earrings were once thought to keep the evil spirits from possessing an individuals body. Silver earrings were seen to create a protective barrier about an individual so that no evil spirits could penetrate exposed orifices. Also wearing silver earrings were thought to keep the devil away from the wearer. So sporting a simple pair of hoops could keep your body possession free while the wearer is being stylish.

The superstition of the engagement goes as is, if you have a ring on your ring finger don’t remove it, if you don’t have one there don’t put one there. It was considered bad luck if a woman removed her engagement ring for any reason before her wedding day. The reason for this was because of the fear that the wedding may never take place. It was also a big no no to let another woman try on your engagement ring. It was said that if that occurred, the woman that tried on the ring would steal the soon to be husband away. For the single ladies, it is considered bad luck to display a ring on the proposed engagement ring finger. If a woman was to wear a ring on that finger, she would be cursed to be alone forever.

Some believe that it is bad luck to wear a birth stone that isn’t yours. If that were the case, every bride in the world would be cursed unless their birthday fell in the month of April.

The young couple, both 28, were engaged after William proposed in Kenya last October. They will marry next spring or summer.

Out of all the engagement rings he could choose from, the Prince chose what might be the most meaningful to him; he gave Kate his mother’s ring – the same one Prince Charles gave to Princess Diana thirty years ago. The ring features a large sapphire surrounded by sparkling diamonds. William said it was “my way of making sure my mother didn’t miss out on today and the excitement”.

And what does Miss Middleton think of her new royal role? Regarding her ring, she priased Princess Diana as an “inspirational woman”. She also confessed that it is a “daunting prospect” to join the royal family, but she hoped she would take it all in stride.

The couple met roughly a decade ago when both were students at St. Andrews University. When asked about the length of their relationship and the long time it took him to finally pop the question, William responded, “I didn’t realise it was a race, otherwise I probably would have been a lot quicker.” Miss Middleton agreed that the time finally felt right. “We have been going out a long time. We had spoken about our future and it just seemed the natural step for both of us.”

Prince Harry, out for flying training with the RAF, issued a public statement congratulating the couple. “I am delighted that my brother has popped the question. It means I get a sister, which I have always wanted.”

The couple did not reveal details of the proposal itself, except to say that it was romantic and personal. Both shared their excitement and happiness at taking the next step in their relationship and about their future together. The wedding will be held in London next year. Once married, the couple will live in north Wales where Prince William is currently serving with the air force. And as for children? Prince William says they want a family, but will take it “one step at a time”.

Celebrities and famous people not only have the power to define current trends in the world of fashion and décor but can also design and divert the public’s general taste and opinion.
The fascination of celebrities with diamond rings has been known for decades, especially since Merlyn Monroe described them as “a girl’s best friend” in her famous song. There seem to be many similarities between celebrities and diamonds, which might explain the strong connection between the two: they both attempt to shine and stand out from the crowd, and they both need to be not only of a high quality but also attractive and aesthetically appealing in order to succeed.
It is no coincidence that some of the most famous diamond rings that have altered the face of the history, belong to famous celebrities:

Elizabeth Taylor- Taylor is well known for her many failed marriages, especially to her beloved Richard Burton with whom she married twice.
Despite having a string of marriages, Taylor’s most famous diamond ring is without a doubt the one she has received from Burton himself for her 40th birthday. The ring made headlines all over the world at the time, due to its massive size and shape. The diamond ring was found in South Africa, weighing 48 grams. It was a pear shaped diamond, cut by the famous diamond Diller Harry Winston.
It was the first time the whole world has shown a true obsession regarding diamond rings, and it appears than ever since- the interest and the fascination with diamonds keep growing as the time goes by.
Elizabeth Taylor’s ring may have caused a precedent in terms of our attitude towards jewelry and diamond rings, but ever since many celebrities became more famous for their choice of diamonds than for their work.

To say being a celebrity and living the Hollywood life is extravagant and luxurious is an understatement. Celebrities drop mega bucks on all sorts of toys, from gigantic Santa Monica mansions to private jets and multiple sports cars. Celebrities do love their things, and sometimes they go a bit overboard. But, there are some things that celebrities just can’t seem to have enough of – diamonds – and we couldn’t be happier. Diamonds define beauty, grace, and eternal divinity, and we agree – no celebrity can ever have enough diamonds. Check out this list of 5 of the most diamond-addicted celebrities in Hollywood, who, despite all they already own, are always looking for more diamonds.

5. Jennifer Aniston, although has hit many romantic ups and down, definitely struck gold with the engagement ring Brad Pitt designed for her before their wedding. A white gold band with 20 perfect diamonds decorated her hand for all the world to see. And she doesn’t stop there – she also sports a few other diamond pieces regularly. One of her favorites is a diamond crescent moon necklace.

4. Nicole Kidman, at the 2008 Oscars, wowed onlookers with a sautoir necklace, apparently made with over 7000 diamonds, all different types. This piece, estimated at 1400 carats, is one of the things people will remember from the Red Carpet that year forever. Nicole showed us exactly how to make a statement with diamonds.

3. Paris Hilton has surrounded herself in diamonds. For brief engagement to Paris Latsis, the Greek shipping heir, she received a 24 carat diamond and platinum engagement ring, which she apparently had to take off since it was too heavy for her to wear. Since she had to take it off, she of course, had to get more diamonds that were more suitable. Paris has been a model for over $3 million in diamonds, started her own collection of diamond necklaces, earrings, and bracelets, and has also been a diamond spokesmodel.

2. Marilyn Monroe may have taught us that “diamonds are a girl’s best friend,” but Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs is a seriously diamond-addicted celebrity, despite his gender. He is always sure to show off some serious bling everywhere he goes. From diamond necklaces to earrings and watches, Combs has a collection that most celebrities try to rival, but will never surpass. A recent addition to his collection is a diamond-encrusted mp3 player, completely covered with over 120 diamonds.

1. Elizabeth Taylor is our number one diamond-addicted celebrity. She never went out without complementing her natural beauty with that of a diamond. She had a vast personal collection that included pieces such as an antique diamond tiara, a 69 carat pear-shaped diamond, a 29 carat diamond ring, and a 33 carat Krupp Diamond Ring. Just these pieces alone add up to over 130 carats of diamonds! Her life-long passion made its way to the literary world when she wrote the book, Elizabeth Taylor: My Love Affair with Jewelry, where you can read about and see her one-of-a-kind collection.

People are getting engaged every day, and boyfriends are constantly thinking of the most creative ways to pop the question. A few days ago, I got the call from my younger sister, who sat me down yesterday to tell me the whole story. I feel compelled to share my sister’s story with you because, while most engagement stories are sap tales that hug your heart, this one left me in absolute hysterics and has an important message that you may want to hear.

Amy and Mike have been dating for 3 years. She was immediately fascinated by his adventurous personality. He made her face challenging fears that she never thought she’d do, like, for example, jumping out of an airplane 13,000 ft up in the sky. After only a month of dating, Mike took Amy for her first jump, something he had been doing for years. She told me that there’s no bonding experience quite like it that can bring to people closer together.

Clearly, the date was a success, since they always talk about that experience and how amazing it was. So, it came as no surprise to me that this is how Mike decided to propose.
Mike told Amy that they were going skydiving because he needed a rush. It had been a while since his last jump, and he wanted her to come with him. So, they went, got on the plane, and 15 minutes later, they were sitting on the edge about to jump into thin air and the most important question still remained to be asked.

And then they went. Amy took the first few seconds to get adjusted to falling through the sky, and then her attention turned to Mike, who was holding a beautiful engagement ring between his index finger and thumb. He had written “will you marry me?” on the palm of the other hand. She couldn’t resist the temptation to reach for him, and he the same for her. The excitement of the proposal combined with flying through thin air, however, was too much for Mike to handle, and before he knew it, the ring was gone, falling aimlessly to its own destiny.

Almost like clockwork, it was suddenly time to pull the parachutes. There’s nothing like waiting 7 minutes floating in the sky, wondering if your girlfriend will say yes to the most important question you’ve ever asked, or realizing you’ve just dropped a large diamond investment 13,000 ft from the ground.

Well, 7 minutes went by and felt like an eternity for the two, but they managed to get down on the ground and Amy of course, accepted. And then it was time to find the ring. Amy was running around frantically, excited that she’s engaged to the love of her life, but more than anxious to get what every girl gets when asked the question. She was freaking out, thinking the ring was lost forever, and she’d be the girl who got engaged without being able to parade around with a diamond on her finger. When she realized Mike seemed too calm to have just lost something worth thousands and thousands of dollars such sentimental value, she started to yell at him uncontrollably.

Well, Mike, what a clever guy he is. He sat her down and held her hand, which was now shaking out of shock and fury, and said, “Sweetie, calm down, that was just a decoy ring. Here, will you marry me?” And with that, he pulled out the most beautiful diamond engagement ring she had ever seen. A splendid 2 karat princess cut, set on a white gold band, with 2 smaller diamonds on either side of the shining jewel – it was a ring fit for royalty and everything she could have imagined.

So, Mike and I offer you a piece of advice today. If you are planning on proposing at any elevated location, a bridge, the sky, or the penthouse balcony, you may want to think twice about pulling out the real thing when popping the question. Allow the moment to be stress-free so all you have to focus on is the girl of your dreams accepting you as her man. And that the beautiful ring you just bought her will actually make it onto her finger.
