The 4Cs of Diamonds

Here is a quick guide to the 4Cs of diamonds, well worth reading before you set off to buy a diamond engagement ring for that special someone:

Carat: The size of a diamond is measured in carats. One carat equals 0.2 grams. However, it’s important to remember that bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better.

Cut: Cut (not to be mistaken with shape), refers to the quality of workmanship that brings out the brilliance in a diamond. Once considered an art, diamond cutting is now more often thought of as a science. This is mainly due to the introduction of high-precision diamond cutting equipment, which can cut a given diamond in such a way that will bring out its full potential.

Color: Color simply refers to a diamond’s natural color, as determined by nature. Colorless diamonds are graded D, E, and F, while at the other end of the spectrum, diamonds take on an increasingly yellow hue

Clarity: Nearly all diamonds have some level of flaws, imperfections, or inclusions, and the naturally affect the appearance and brilliance.
